First Man (Review)

'First Man' is a biographical drama film which stars Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, this film is directed by Damien Chazelle.

Think less space exploration and more family drama going into Chazelle's latest film. While this film does in some ways has the scale of a blockbuster, it is not told as one. Focused on the scarifies Armstrong and his peers faced to reach mankind's greatest achievement.

The film holds strong thanks to it's two leading performances from Gosling and Foy. Chazelle shows that in this film while he is known as a technically stylistic director, he also brings out some highlight performances from his two leads, performances which usually reach there peak without relying on dialog.

While during the lead up to the appolo mission might seem inotioally slow paced, all of the focus on charractor development pays off as the film reaches it's climax. The cinematography, while not as striking as La La Land, does have those dream like moment, consisting of soft focus shots.

Overall, 'First Man' is a film which serves it's subject matter justice, as we are able to see and understand the asperations and struggles of people on the forefront of exploration.
