A Simple Favor (Review)

'A Simple Favor' is a mystery thriller comedy which stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. This film is directed by Paul Feig.

Diverting expectations is what Hollywood wants most, however in 2018 that idea is turning more and more into a dream than a reality, however Feig latest outing might just be able to achieve it. The tone of a mystery thriller and a farce comedy, sounds odd, although one could argue that filmmakers such as Billy Wilder have created works that have mixed genres, it's been a long time since something so bold came out in recent years. On paper it sounds like an film that shouldn't work and watching it in the cinema I was asking the same question, wondering how mixing these two broad genre's work while still remaining tonally consistent.

To my mind it's the performances from both Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively and the writing of the main characters which really make it work, despite being in a completely absurd scenario, the characters are bizarrely relatable. Another performance worth mentioning here is Henry Golding, an upcoming actor who already has a lot of on-screen charisma.

If you love that movie with all the twists and turns you can shake a stick at, but can also embrace the silliness of the humour than this film is defiantly one that is worth viewing, even if occasionally the humour can be a bit much.
